“I always liked to
hear about the old-timers”
So begins
the American movie “No country for old men” that was directed in 2007 by Joel
and Ethan Coen. Its plot is based on the homonym novel written by Cormac
McCarthy. Coen brothers said “The book was about a good guy, a bad guy and a
guy in between.”
This long
featured movie tells the story of Llewelyn Moss (the guy in between), a man who
finds a great treasure consisting in a huge quantity of money and tries to run
away with it. But it will not be an easy task. He will have Anton Chiurh (the
bad guy) trying to get that money, and he will not cease until he gets his aim.
According to the dialogues of the movie itself, Chiurh “is a peculiar man.
Might even say he has principles”. “I guess I’d say he doesn't have a sense of
humor”. The good guy is Sheriff Ed Tom Bell, who is trying to cease the
violence in the region, although he is planning to be retired.
All this
takes place in West Texas, near the line with Mexico.
Regarding the subject of the movie, violence could be detached specially.
“No country
for old men” is actually a very interesting creation in many ways. The
production is quite remarkable, including the
actor’s direction. No need to say that Javier Bardem’s performance (Anton
Chiurh) is outstanding. That is actually the reason why he won an Accademy
Award as best supporting actor. His character is a no-mercy and no-compassion
psychopath killer who is always stolid. Nothing seems to affect him, and he is
ready to do anything to get his purpose. Both Josh Brolin, who plays the part
of Lllewelyn Moss and Tommy Lee Jones as Ed Tom Bell also make a great work.
The
photography direction is also quite good. The main colors used in this movie
are yellow, blue and red. The last one is mainly for the blood.
This movie
won many awards, including four Oscars, three BAFTAS and two Golden Globes.
To
conclude, I recommend you this movie because of its dark story and its cast,
which was perfectly chosen and all performances are worth seeing.
